It seems like we should have a secondary state motto about resilience...

I couldn't help but share them. I've had so many people ask how to help.

"Alabama has a history of resilience, and it will rise back up from this destruction, just as we have from others in the past."

Amen and amen.

Thanks for sharing these ways to help our neighbors in Alabama.

late. as usual.

I love you. Deciding not to follow through with higher education is my speciality (LOL) and I totally understand about digging in where you have roots. Back in Boston, whatup.

My favorite parts of my trip home involved our shenanigans in Chicago. You're a fabulous, wonderful, strong, amazing person and I have no doubt that you'll excel in whatever you choose to do, bb.

Kudos to you, VM. I don't know all the details (wow, I almost wrote 'deets' there), but it takes a lot of cojones to come to a decision like that. While we'll miss you here in academia, I would completely understand.

For me, it's the reverse that got me into a program. For me, I envisioned working some menial career in corporate (because let's face it, an MBA from St. John's isn't a top-flight degree) being at the bottom end of the payscale cause I never really had much corporate experience (thanks to careerist parents, I had no networks for jobs).

It took for me to lose my job because of the recession in order to trade up for my degree. And even at that, it wasn't even trading up. I think I may have been destined for it -- it was something suggested to me by my b-school profs and plays well to my strengths (whereas corporate played to my weaknesses). But it seemed improbable I would ever get in anywhere (all I needed was one school to give me a chance) and worthless to apply. But here I am. I'm unfortunately putting Mrs. Smalrus through tough times, but like you said, I have expectations to see just how one decision can change our lives--for the better.

They say when life gives you lemons, to make lemonade. But it's even sweeter when you find the sugar. Good luck with whatever may come next.

Lauren, really? Racist? C'mon! People play the racist and/or prejudice card so frivolously. It's no such thing. Nor, mind you, is it unconstitutional.

IF the FEDERAL government tried to impose such, without an amendment to that end, THEN it would be unconstitutional. States, however, are sovereign. And they have reserved to themselves all powers and rights not delegated to the fed gov via specific enumeration in the constitution.

So, unless the state constitution bar's such, it is perfectly acceptable and permissible for a state to designate an official, or primary language.

Now, while I have reservations to the specific example used here by Tim James, as to the wider issues it implicates, I'm generally with Him. I also find it refreshing to hear a man just come out and say where he stands, and what he intends to do about it, even if it is not politically correct. For that reason he has my attention.

If he is elected I hope he will take it further than that, following Arizona's lead. I also hope he will push sovereignty resolutions. Alabama, by and large, is not a leftist, liberal people or culture. I pray it never becomes so. To that end we need strong, conservative, constitutionally strict, and politically incorrect leaders (like Tim James, seemingly) to preserve our way of life from the creeping political/cultural genocide seeking to envelop conservative America, and especially the South.

@Lauren: You're exactly right. It is unnecessary, especially considering that road signs in those exams and study guides ARE in English.

Tennessee recently voted down an "english only" referendum. It's unnecessary, mean spirited, unconstitutional and racist.
I hope Alabamians will reject Tim James... but I'm afraid they won't.

Thanks Erin... The loss in December was rough with the holidays... Today's news was just as shocking, and so unexpected. It can be so short. And I'm equally glad to have you in my life as well. I'm thankful for those who surround me and support me, and keep me encouraged and going. :)
