respect the matthews
So, tonight I decided to watch Hardball with Chris Matthews because one of my favorite hometown congressmen, Artur Davis, was a guest. It’s not everyday that he gets facetime. He’s one of those incredible politicians that are quiet, and working behind the background diligently for his constituency. He gets things done… and he’s not in it for himself.
Tonight on Hardball, he sat alongside Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC-10), and discussed the Iraq war, and the possibility of interaction with Iran, based on the comments by presidential candidate John McCain. McHenry appeared simpleminded and incredibly annoyed and frustrated when he was cut off by Matthews. What else do you expect from Matthews??? He cuts EVERYONE off… especially when you’re not making a point, and that was McHenry’s problem. He had nothing to base his comments upon.
Now, Davis, on the other hand, was patient and gentile… a true Southern gentleman. He expanded upon ideas and thoughts and had a civil conversation. Amazingly, Matthews rarely cut him off, which meant that Davis actually knew what he was talking about! I was proud to see Artur on television tonight… I think he represented Alabama very well.
And, of course, it never hurts to hear a good Southern ‘Bama accent when you’re in the huge melting pot of Washington, D.C.
