where i’m from

September 12, 2006 · Posted in Ins-and-Outs

I am from southern manners, from White Lily and Quaker Instant Grits.

I am from the smell of sliced watermelon in the summer.

I am from the green grass, the humid summer days.
I am from the lake and laughter, from Carroll and Marlene and Jimmy and Frances.

I am from the grips of gracious hospitality and the loyalty of protecting one’s own.

From standing up straight and sitting in a chair on all fours.

I am from Baptists and Methodists. Rigid rules, exhausting detail, strong heritage, even stronger faith.

I’m from Alabama, tomatoes and barbecue.

From the fishing stories of my grandfather, the crossword puzzles of my grandmother, and the endless sarcasm shared with my brother.

I am from the deep South… Alabama to be exact.

This idea was ‘borrowed’ from new blog-buddy Buffy. I liked it, and followed links until I found a similar template, and figured I’d try it out. The story of this template comes from a poem already written. You can find information here.
