romancing the hurricane

As the DCist has promptly stated it, the brutal days of summer are behind us. And even though this nice breezy autumnish weather has been brought on by a hurricane-turned-tropical storm-turned-depression Ernesto, I must admit, there’s nothing depressing about what Ernesto is bringing to D.C.

Well, there’s always the fear of having to fight the dreaded floods of earlier this summer when half of the Metro system shut down.

The breezes bring the windows up, and the long sleeves out. This is what I was made for in the city. Forget the sizzle and sweat of D.C., give me the breezy afternoons, lazy Sundays and sleeping in to mornings like today’s. Those are the days that make D.C. so sweet.

Yes, it is my first autumn in Washington, and no one will steal my thunder. I can’t wait to make my way down to the Tidal Basin in a few weeks to peek at the turning leaves from green to reds, browns, yellows, and oranges. The quiet whispers that autumn evenings bring with the breeze. Not to mention all of my favorite monumental men that I can see each evening through the falling leaves. Count the endless dates with them.
I’m officially in paradise.
