<lj-cut text="friday night musings">i've seriously got to stop hitting up all these great shows. it's making it hard to really define which ones were the best.
will hoge was last night at workplay. freakin' awesome. been in love with his music since i first heard it this summer when i moved back to the 'ham. he was on beaner & ken… wrote a song called 'hey mr. president,' and things have never been the same since. well, except that beaner & ken don't exist on radio in birmingham anymore.
they have a new album coming out in april. heck yeah… i can't wait. he did one song from it last night called 'woman, be strong.' i swear, every girl in that theatre was swooning over him in those moments. it was almost like falling in love all over again. it was… mmmm. no words to really describe it, but my heart was beating a mile a minute. it almost went into catastrophic failure when he went down to his knees singing, 'stay, stay, stay.' oh my gosh…
there were definitely interesting characters at the show. deb and i sat with the most interesting 2 fellas. at the end, we finally concluded that they must have been on a second or third date. but they were super nice. it was the first time they had really heard will hoge, and they loved the show. then, there was a woman sitting 2 tables away who definitely had WAY too much to drink. wow… she was going nuts while dancing. it was interesting.

is it me or does will hoge (on the left) look a little bit like jared wood? freaky stuff. after the photo of me and 2 of the boys, jefferson (the keyboardist, on the right) said i was very photogenic. hmmm… ok, thanks for that, since i just met you and you didn't even see the photo. but, it's ok, because you were hot. i'll take the compliment gladly… see you in april. and can you believe those photos were taken with a camera phone? i was impressed… the new phone is a step up from the old moto.
by the way, will hoge and marc broussard will be at workplay april 8. this is possibly the greatest news ever to me… 2 of the greatest shows i've seen… TOGETHER! woohoo, can't wait.</lj-cut>

feeling the need… the need, for…
an update. overdue, most definitely. yikesabee, if i only had more time on my hands…
this week has felt like a rollercoaster, up, down, further down… then way up. it was making me a little nautious earlier in the week, but now i've managed to feel a little better about my surroundings.
we had tom bandy down here at work and i had to miss classes on tuesday. i would have much rather gone to my classes though. i felt like he just repeated the same thing over and over. i got the concept, so why didn't others? i don't guess i'll ever understand that one. anyways, this whole reorganizational method he preaches is beneficial in only certain ways. i'm convinced that he's only good for aggravating people. but, no matter.
i love choir. it's the highlight of my week. getting to sing and sing, the fantastic people. it's incredibly therapeutic. after choir is praise alliance, which is quickly also becoming a favorite. we went to dinner after that, and i got to spend some quality time with people, getting to know who they were instead of just 'choir member.' i loved it. plus, my choir candy crush was there… that's never a dull thing. 
by the way, anna… you're way too cool to put up with my excitement. you can rebuke it whenever you feel the need.
today is nice. nothing pressing at all. i like days like this. i've already listened to the news, read the paper, gotten my to-do list tackled before 8:30 a.m. (which is easy when you're here at 7). plus, i leave in about an hour.
so much has happened this week, but i don't know where it all fits, and i sure don't want to type it all. plus, sometimes i have so many thoughts that i don't want to cause a mental argument over what i write with what i think, so i think i shall refrain…
is there any reason why people SHOULDN'T be cynical? i think i like cynical-ity. it makes things different.

status-quo seems so cliché
days seem like weeks, and the hours just pass me by. thus is the story of a life. not just any life though… it's definitely the story of my life.
however quickly the minutes, hours, days and weeks pass, i feel my mind being filled with knowledge of many things, both good and bad. history, law, stress, craziness, deadlines, etc. etc. sometimes it's overrated… but every once in a while, it latches on and really means something.
that something came to me this week… yesterday (friday) to be exact. regardless of the insanity that ensued with full-time work and full-time school, moments of clarity filled my friday. i finished up a to-do list that wasn't long, but meticulous. but, i overcame the chains that held me to that list… being the perfectionist and obsessive person i can be.
another moment was when the skeleton staff enjoyed meltaways from savage's (the best bakery ever), and chatted away about how good they were. and for a moment, we all were just enjoying each others' company.
later, i went and enjoyed lunch by myself, which allowed me to read some more of 'my life' by bill clinton. he told of the funniest story when he was baptized. he ended it by saying that if jesus had that kind of sense of humor, then he could see that this faith thing couldn't be too terribly hard. indeed, bill, indeed. jesus does have a sense of humor. i'd like to think that he laughs at me all the time.
i got to spend some major time with my best friend, mollie. we went and watched 'in good company,' which i in my heart believe to be the best movie i've seen in a LONG time. it was real, gruesome and exactly what i needed to see. it was full of moments of instability and exposure. it was the complete human experience in 2 hours… fantastic.
mollie and i spent some quality chat time with an annoying and strange server at crepes egg-setera. i believe myself to be blessed that i have one best friend. one real and true best friend, and that being mollie… who rolls her eyes at me when i'm being stupid, listens intently when my eyes tear up and sometimes knows what i have to say when i can't get it off my lips. it somehow makes life easier. and friday felt so incredibly free and easy. i thank God for days like yesterday… for seeing that my busy life, my schedule, similar to others, but not exact, helps me to remember why i like being not-status-quo. it is fleeting… cliché.
it went to pits pretty quickly though today. i had a few errands to run today, so while i was at brookwood mall, i was killing for a caesar salad from jason's deli. i got it, and walked toward a seat, when i got a little off balance and my tray shook. my salad went sliding off, right into a dishpan in front of me. while i ran away in embarrassment and intense hunger, i realized better my plate than all of me in that dishpan. so i jumped in my car, sulked in my foolishness and went to moe's to get take-out on my way home.
funny how things just come and go. but, isn't that just cliché? i'm in search for something that isn't… something original… something passionate, without being mass produced. something deeper still.

friday was work, taking care of last minute school stuff while all the offices were open and then full council.
saturday was class, going back to sumatanga, wedding reception and a show at the summerfest cabaret theatre.
today was church (both services), studying and desperate housewives (of course).

emily deloach was amazing on saturday night. her mom found out about the newspaper article about me, where i mentioned emily, and thanked me personally. jordan, one of the gals in the band used to be my best friend mollie's roommate, so we chatted for a while, and then walked over and chatted with emily for a bit. if you haven't seen her or heard her, she's a must. speaking of the article, i swear everyone read it that day. i've never had so many people say stuff about it. i thought for sure that it would be nothing, and no one would ever read it. now i'm starting to even second guess myself… and especially if i'm incredibly self-conscious about its content, making me feel like i'm an OCD-ish nazi bore. so, maybe a spade really is a spade. hmmmm. maybe i want a re-analysis… or just a complete do-over… God, can you handle that? i'm sure i'm in desperate need of it lately.
today, i got so excited when r.scott asked me to come and sing with praise alliance. they are my favorite vocal ensemble at trinity. yay!!! it'll be an extra hour on wednesdays… but you know, i've always heard that if things need to get done, you ask the some of the busiest people, because they know how to schedule.
i feel like i'm scheduling sleep now. it's so strange. but i like the busyness. it makes my rest so much better. speaking of, i'm due for a date with my pillow in about 5 minutes.

wow. this week… it has run and jumped and kicked the fastest, highest and like nobody's business. sheesh. and will those guys at homestarrunner ever run out of ideas? i doubt it.
so yeah, it feels like it was just monday. forget boredom here… i'm all about being some kind of busy between working all day and then classes all evening. that sounds like it was some kind of promo for a super hero… communicator by day, student by night… it's emily! yeah, but i seriously doubt that anyone would really want to idolize that. i should have been done with school umpteen years ago.
no matter how stressful it can get (and believe me, this week was a kicker), i love my job. it's fantastic… i get to be with such great people all day long… two of which are buddies of mine from pre-canterbury days. and i'm ok with that. i just wish that i got to chat with them more. but i guess it's good that we're all working, huh?
countdown: 2 days until mass chaos breaks loose at canterbury. it should be an interesting sunday… very interesting.
sometimes i miss normalcy… but not too often.
